Welcome to the multi-part video series that will teach you how to implement DataTables in your Claris FileMaker Pro solutions effectively. If you’re new to this series, we recommend starting from the introduction to maximize your learning experience. You can access the complete series here: Master DataTables with Claris FileMaker Pro.
In the previous video series, we learned about JS Functions and Libraries, the power behind DataTables. We acquired skills to allow us to control the behavior and appearance of our DataTables reports by understanding DOM Elements and modifying specific settings.
In this series, we continue our path of learning how to alter the appearance of our DataTables reports by modifying columns.
Introducing the Columns Builder
The Columns Builder is a key feature within the DataTables Builder application. Prior to this series, the default columns that were generated from the data were accepted as is. The goal of this series is to explore the Columns Builder, a user interface (UI) tool that allows for the modification of report appearance without manually editing code.
The visual utility is intended to streamline report modification and accelerate the report-building process. The tool can be accessed via the Column tab after the default columns have been generated. A preview of the Columns Builder’s appearance is shown but it will be explored in-depth in upcoming episodes.
Streamline Report Customization
Beyond the overview of the Columns Builder, we will gain practical usage of the tool. From changing titles, reordering columns, and enhancing search capabilities, we will streamline report modification and accelerate the report-building process. The goal is to equip you with the skills to modify reports that you can confidently deliver to your stakeholders.
